This features allows you to give shoppers a quick way to switch an item to a subscription.

To offer subscription option, you need a Shopify subscription app to handle the payment part. Cartly integrates with Shopify's Subscription API, ensuring compatibility with all major subscription applications, including:

Plan names and options are pulled directly from your subscription app.

How it works for customers

  • For products that have subscription options, a checkbox appears under the item in the cart.

  • Checking it expands a block with a dropdown to pick the subscription plan (e.g., delivery frequency).

  • If you disable downgrades, once a plan is chosen the checkbox disappears and the item stays as a subscription.

How to offer subscription option in the cart drawer?

  1. In Cartly, navigate to Custom Cart β†’ Upsell option β†’ Subscription upgrade, switch the toggle to Enabled.

  2. Use the placeholders and include the plan name you've set in your subscription app. Subscription plans label uses the variable {subscription_plan_name} (inherited from your subscription app).

  3. Optionally, you can tick the "Allow downgrade to one-time purchase" box to let shoppers switch back to one-time purchase.

Note: Only products that have subscription options in your subscription app will show the upgrade checkbox in the cart.
